The Blacker House Shoe Bench is part of the Pasadena Bungalow Collection by Stickley Furniture.

This graceful piece of furniture is both beautiful and practical, and will lend a unique flavour and refinement to your home. The bench has an Asian-influenced design, with graceful arches along the back portion of the seat.

The bench can be used in any entrance area, whether a foyer, front hallway or back doorway, and has two compartments under the seat for storage. Although originally intended for shoes and boots, you could easily use it for clothing, such as hats, gloves, scarves, or anything else you wish to store.

Because of its elegant, simple design, the piece could also easily be incorporated into a sunroom, living room or kitchen.

The Blacker House Shoe Bench is made from African sapele, which adds to its refined look. Sapele is a stunning hardwood. When quartersawn, the interlocking grain forms beautiful light and dark ribbon stripes throughout the boards. blakerhouse-bench

Although the colour of African sapele is generally similar to that of African mahogany, it is more durable than true mahoganies. Another unique detail of the bench is the wooden nail head pins that are made of African Blackwood.

The Blacker House Shoe Bench is inspired by the Blacker house in California. The house was designed by Greene and Greene for lumber magnate Robert Rue Blacker in 1907. It is one of the finest examples of American Arts and Crafts-style homes and incorporates features of that movement, including simple, clean design, natural materials and lighting, and handmade objects.

Like the Blacker House, the bench reflects design principles of the Arts and Crafts movement, including clean lines, beautiful hardwood and hand craftsmanship. The bench is a lifetime piece that you can pass down from generation to generation.

  • Wood: Sapelli
